Knights up three spots to #6 in Week 7 NJCAA Poll
Haverhill, MA (10/15/2024) — The Northern Essex Community College men's soccer team jumped up three spots this week to the number six position in the NJCAA Week 7 poll, following a 1-0 week where they picked up their fourth consecutive shutout with a 7-0 victory over MassBay Community College.
The number six national ranking is a new high-water mark for the program as they reached as high as number eight in the final poll of the 2023 season. For the Knights they have reeled off nine straight wins to sit at 9-2 and have held the opponent scoreless for the last 388 minutes dating back to September 24th in a 4-1 victory over Holyoke.
NECC has outscored the opponent 48-7 on the season including seven shutouts behind sophomore Will Paganini (Derry, NH) who currently maintains a 0.64 goals against average on the season.
Offensively, the Knights are scoring 4.36 goals a game led by Jadiel Bomfim (Nashua, NH) and Sam Lucena (Tyngsborough) who both have eight goals a piece on the season. Christian Colem (Nashua, NH) is the teams point leader as he has 22 total points on seven goals and eight assists.
NECC enters a crucial week in the season with a pair of home games scheduled for Whittier Tech. First, on Tuesday the Knights will welcome Community College of Rhode Island to Haverhill for a 7:00pm matchup before entertaining perennial power Bunker Hill on Saturday at 4:30pm in a contest that will likely determine the post-season tournaments top seed.
