Jairo Vasquez earns Rawlings Gold Glove Award as best defensive pitcher

Charlotte, NC (06/23/2023) — Sophomore Jairo Vasquez (Lawrence) has been named the NJCAA Division III/Rawlings Gold glove winner at the pitching position as best defensive pitcher as announced today by Rawlings and the NJCAA Baseball Committee. The Gold Glove for Vasquez is the first for a Knight since Ryan Collins was named a Gold Glove shortstop in 2018.

The first team All-American selection and Pitcher of the Tournament at the NJCAA World Series, Vazquez had a .917 fielding percentage from the mound, committing just one error over 14 appearances where he went 8-0 with a nations best 0.93 ERA

Vasquez and the Knights concluded one of the most successful seasons in the programs history as they finished with an overall record of 38-8 and a third-place finish in the World Series in Greeneville, TN. In their ninth all-time World Series appearance it was the third top three finish to go along with 2012 and 2016 (runner-up).
